Felix Mendelssohn - Complete Works for Pianoforte Solo, Vol. 1

The print and paper quality of this book are very good. My book is used and the binding is in excellent condition. The book is an improved republication of the Breitkopf & Hartel edition with larger note heads and more space for entering notes and your own fingering as no fingering is in the print. This edition series by Dover takes the original four volumes and puts them into a very convenient set of two volumes.

Too many errors

Dover editions are great value, but the quality of their editions is variable. They only reproduce older, public domain editions of classics without correcting them. These editions are usually pretty good, but not always, and this Mendelssohn collection is at the bottom of the curve. I only got this book for the Phantasie, Op. 28, and the number of wrong notes is really frustrating. Unfortunately, I don't know any other good options, unless you want to shell out $70 for the Henle urtext edition...
Two stars, because the binding and the paper quality is great, as usual from Dover.

This is a good beginning collection! Dover is a great value for anyone that is either on a budget or does not require an expensive urtext edition.
