From the Back Cover

Heraldry had its origin in the decorative shields used in Western Europe in the twelfth century. Today the varied and colorful designs that have developed over the centuries carry a rich aura of medieval romance that can enhance any number of artistic and design projects.
For this volume, Carol Belanger Grafton has selected 1,047 authentic heraldic designs and motifs from The Art of Heraldry, a classic study by Arthur Charles Fox-Davies (1871–1928), an English barrister and foremost authority on the subject. Dating from the fourteenth to the twentieth centuries, the illustrations include 393 full-color and 654 black-and-white designs: arms of individuals, among them such notables as Edward the Black Prince, John Milton, and Maximilian I; arms of institutions, corporations, guilds, towns, and cities; heraldic windows; examples of heraldic lions, eagles, and dragons; banners and crests; and more.
These designs represent a superb source of authentic royalty-free images that will give aristocratic flair to book and magazine illustrations, advertisements, newsletters, and other graphic projects. This volume is also a valuable visual reference for those interested in genealogy.
Dover (1991) original selection of designs from The Art of Heraldry: An Encyclopaedia of Armory, originally published by T. C. & E. C. Jack, London, 1904.

A feast for the eyes
By A Customer
Like all Dover publications, I was not disappointed when I picked up this book. The illustrations themselves are rich and detailed, truly a feast for the eyes, for any artist or craftsperson. The helpful text and detailed descriptions make the book easy to use and very enjoyable. This book makes a fantastic suplement to the "Design Your Own Coat of Arms" by Rosemary A. Chorzempa (Dover), because it gives you a great wealth of ideas from which to work. I highly reccommend this book to anyone who has an interest in heraldry, you won't be disappointed.

Artists book not for researchers
By A Customer
If you want to know what different styles of family emblems people have had this is a great book. If you want to know anything about the individual designs (whos it was, where it is from, age of origin), this is not the book. The book is 70% black and white and 30% color. It would be great for an artist, not a researcher.

Fantastic book of heraldry for artists
By Paul Campbell
This is a wonderful collection of over 1,047 individual coats of arms and full armorial achievements, with 393 in color. It is entirely a visual book, so there is no explanation of what one is looking at, but for a beginning heraldic artist looking for pointers or anyone interested in looking at heraldic art, you can't go wrong.

Good and complete book for the beginning western rider
By A Customer
I loved this book! I have just bought my own quarter horse and read many interesting things in this book that helped gaining more knowledge about western riding, horses, tack and training. I think it is a very good book for people who are starting out with western riding and/or are thinking about buying their own horse.

Basics
By A Customer
For a book that is titled 'The Basics', there was way too much jargon with no explanation. For example, there is a paragraph that tell the reader to 'learn the difference between the two types of hands, the fixed and the following', but then there is no explanation of the differences or even what either means. It also references different parts of the horse without explanation, such as the 'withers'. I did finally find an appendix that explains some of the terms, but it is never referenced in the book, and it does not explain all of the terms.

basic is what it is not
By B. Bishop
. I have read this book with confounded astonishment!

The pictures are not descriptive of the material, even the breeds are not accurately drawn.

Pictures of horses being jerked around! Pictures of poor horsemanship! Pictures that are poor examples to new horse lovers.

Probably the worst horse book I have read. And I have over 1000 horse books. I bought the book at a second hand store, and I am glad I did because it keeps it out of the hands of an unsuspecting public.

I have never seen such misinformation, not even the lope leads are described in a comprehensible or correct manner.

They have a picture of a girl adjusting her stirrups without even holding the horse, an accident looking for a place to happen. You never do ANYTHING to a horse without having control of the animal.

If a new horse person went by the instructions in this book, they would be riding for a fall, which the author points out will probably happen. They even point this out more than once!

I was very disappointed.

It has a whole list of confirmation points and how they are supposed to be (and many are incorrect), but they do not have any place showing where these points are, and where the horse has some parts listed they are not all in the right place!

When a whole chapter is listed for trail riding competitions, these are advanced and for people with lots of experience, not a novice.

While mentioning risk as a common factor, this book adds to that risk by not showing safe ways to handle the horse.

The Mischievous Unc' Billy Possum
By Darien Summers
A tale of mischief and life lessons, The Adventures of Unc' Billy Possum, is a well crafted children's book of the highest type of quality that one could only come to expect from Thornton Burgess. In this particular book on the animals of the Green Meadows and Green Forest areas, we are treated to the exploits of Billy Possum, a smart witted, sometimes lazy egg lover who stops at nothing to get into Farmer Brown's chicken house and steal his eggs. During the course of this little venture, Billy Possum and the readers learn of how it easy it is to get into trouble, but then how difficult it can be to get out of it; as Billy ends up getting trapped in the chicken house one day and can't make it out for quite some time. Young readers are also taught a little information about possums in general, such as how they will sometimes play dead when confronted with danger. Lessons like this about nature are all too familiar in Burgess' books, and this particular one is no exception.

My daughter loves this book. I read it to her at bedtime. The book has short 3-4 page chapters in easy to read type that make for good nightly installments. She also likes the illustrations which I think are very descriptive and important to have in a children's book that speaks to audiences so young. I think that any child can get into this book in one way or the other, whether it's read to them, or read by themselves if they are old enough.

Adventures of Unc' Billy Possom
By Nelda S. Griffin
The wild tales woven by Mr. Burgess are just up a child's alley. My children asked for this book over and over. At times we were laughing so hard, we had to stop reading to wipe our eyes. We highly recommend this book for a family reading evening.

Fond memories
By Ms. Crouch
My grandmother read this book to me and then allowed me to keep it. I have enjoyed it for all these years (50-something) and I now am sharing it with my own grandchildren. A wonderful return to simpler times and stories that focus on wholesome family love and societal structure. This should be on every grandparent's bookshelf and be shared repeatedly!

Professor Borges: A Course on English Literature, by Jorge Luis Borges

In English at last, Borges’s erudite and entertaining lectures on English literature from Beowulf to Oscar Wilde

Writing for Harper’s Magazine, Edgardo Krebs describes Professor Borges:“A compilation of the twenty-five lectures Borges gave in 1966 at the University of Buenos Aires, where he taught English literature. Starting with the Vikings’ kennings and Beowulf and ending with Stevenson and Oscar Wilde, the book traverses a landscape of ‘precursors,’cross-cultural borrowings, and genres of expression, all connected by Borges into a vast interpretive web. This is the most surprising and useful of Borges’s works to have appeared posthumously.”

Borges takes us on a startling, idiosyncratic, fresh, and highly opinionated tour of English literature, weaving together countless cultural traditions of the last three thousand years. Borges’s lectures — delivered extempore by a man of extraordinary erudition — bring the canon to remarkably vivid life. Now translated into English for the first time, these lectures are accompanied by extensive and informative notes by the Borges scholars Martín Arias and Martín Hadis.

Review
Picture this: You're an Argentine teenager, sitting in a lecture hall on the first day of classes, ready to learn about the history of English literature. In walks your kindly, elderly professor, and suddenly he starts speaking, about everything from The Dream of the Rood to Treasure Island, sometimes quoting entire paragraphs, without any notes whatsoever. He's also blind (and has been for more than a decade). What would your reaction be?

Borges' delivery will engross you -- he is an excellent storyteller.

Lesser Borges but still Borges
By Shalom Freedman
Borges gave a series of lectures on English Literature in Buenos Aires in 1966. His students recorded them and transcripts were later made. They are here collected into a book and present Borges' survey of English Literature. It begins with the foundations in Old English but as would be as expected does not go beyond the early twentieth century. Borges was not really at home with contemporary English literature and his greatest loves like Stevenson were of a previous time. The course is a survey and there is much more description and enthusistic championing rather than deep reading. Still Borges is Borges and there is no way he can write a page without writing something interesting in it.
This book is not really for those who would study English literature in depth, but rather for those many readers for whom simply being in the presence of Borges is what he always thought our reading of Literature should be, a great pleasure.

For Borges fans mostly
By j a haverstick
I'm giving this a 4 not because I didn't really enjoy it but because I feel many will be dissapointed if they take the title literally. I first encountered Borges seriously about 10 yrs ago while on a self-improvement project reading Spanish poetry. I was delighted to see we shared an interest in Schopenhauer, George Berkely and Old English. I read a bio and much of the material in the three volume set of Stories, Essays and Poems by Penguin Classics. I highly recommend this well produced paperback set set to anyone wishing acquantance with this 20th century seminal author. The poetry volume is a dual language book and so anyone with a rudimentery knowledge of the latinate languages can appreciate the poems in the original. I consider them his best work, though the short stories are also highly respected. Borges did not write longer works, all the pieces are quite short. It has often been remarked that he was skipped for the Noble because of some of his unfortunate affiliations with unsavory - to say the least - Latin tyrants. He was, however, no Ezra Pound.

These lectures on English literature are highly idiosyncratic and selective. He goes from long remarks on Anglo Saxon and Scandanavian literature straight to Sam Johnson in the mid 17 hundreds. His remarks often digress into the aesthtics of the language of the period and the imagined national characteristics of the speakers to the virtues of the literature itself. However the reader reacts to these speculations, they are always full of sparkling comments and insights.

After Johnson and Boswell, two of my favorites and engagingly treated, we proceed to Browning, Stevenson and some Romantics. Wordsworth, Blake and Coleridge are perhaps poets we know mostly in passing these days and Borges' remarks are stimulating. I went back to reread some of them and found it rewarding after Borges' remarks. We finish, surprisingly, with William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement of the early 20th century. Because of Morris' influence on art and book production, I'm an afficionado, but I bet I'm in a distinct minority. As to Rossetti, who also gets a lot of attention, good luck even finding him in a standard anthology today (same with Morris, actually).I certainly wouldn't expect to find him in lectures on literature which exclude Milton, Shakespear and Joyce. Anyhow, that's the caveat. This is about the brilliant working of Borges mind, not a refresher course on English lit!

Apparently these lectures, from the 60's, were taped, transcribed in 2003 or so, and just now translated into English. I read in a review in the NYRB that they were not particulary popular in Argentinia..."a prophet has no honor....." They seem to give a pretty good idea of how the master may have performed as a lecturer, side musings, digressions and all, and for that reason I think are a great addition to the library of all serious readers of Jorge Borges.

English Lit 101 resurrected
By D. McGraw
Borges brings alive the old english epics so that you wish the Normans had been beaten back in 1066; curious to see how our literature and our world would have evolved differently. His taste is for the action of old english, the sound of alliterative poetry in prose and the beginnings of an interior dialogue without the abstraction introduced with the injection of french. He finds mystery and enigma without the falsity and forcing of irony nor any overt Christian narrative overlay. He points to a world of pleasurable reading for 21st century sensibilities from a literature more than a century old. Funny, after a century of analysis from a legion of english professors it takes a man who wrote in spanish, lived in Argentina, who was outside the critical traditions of the Academy, who read only for pleasure, and finally was blind - to see the deepest into our literature.

The Beggar's Opera (Dover Thrift Editions), by John Gay

The great lords and powerful public officials of early 18th century England are represented as highwaymen and thieves in this deliciously satirical ballad opera. In addition to its burlesque of the contemporary vogue for Italian operatic styles, John Gay's 1728 masterpiece ridicules a broad spectrum of political figures and social conventions — marriage, lawyers, trade, and even Walpole, the prime minister. Depicting crime and vice at every level of society, The Beggar's Opera offers a witty and powerful indictment of greed, hypocrisy, and corruption in all social classes. When Peachum, a receiver of stolen goods, discovers that a notorious highwayman has eloped with his daughter, the wily old villain turns informer and collects the reward money as his prospective son-in-law is hauled off to prison. Events take an increasingly absurd turn as the dashing outlaw romances the jailer's daughter and effects an escape, only to return to the shadow of the gallows for a farcical climax that parodies the sentimental tragedy of the day.
The Beggar's Opera is in the satirical tradition of Swift and Pope. Its enduring relevance was recognized two centuries later by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, who used it as the basis for their landmark musical, The Threepenny Opera. This attractive, inexpensive edition of an influential comic gem will be applauded by theater lovers, students of literature and history, and other readers.

About the Author

John Gay was an English playwright and poet who is most famous for his satirical masterpiece The Beggar s Opera. Originally employed in the government, Gay turned to writing after losing his position following the death of Queen Anne in 1714. From then on, Gay relied on his income from writing, building up a long list of patrons over the course of his career, and making contact with some of the most famous writers of the time, including Jonathan Swift and Alexander Pope (and with whom he was a member of the informal society of authors and thinkers known as the Scriblerus Club). After losing the majority of his fortune to a bad investment, Gay eventually found his greatest success in The Beggar s Opera, a ballad opera that satirized society and government, and which ran for sixty-two nights upon its initial release. Gay died on December 4, 1732, at the age of forty-seven, and is buried in Westminster Abbey.

Crime, Love and the Opera
By A Customer
The Beggar's Opera by John Gay is an artful yet honest representation of London in the early 1700s. As the Editor's introduction notes, it is a political satire that brings to life the actions of such notorious figures as Jonathan Wild and Robert Walpole. In the Beggar's introduction the reader is made aware of the author's intent to mock the recent craze of the Italian Opera, which is considered by Gay to be thouroughly "unnatural." Immediately after that we are exposed to the corruption of a city offical, Peachum (whose name means "to inform against a fellow criminal"), as he is choosing which criminals should live, as they are still profitable, and who should not, as they have turned honest. Peachum's character of both an arch-criminal and law man is interesting enough in his daily dealings; add to that his daughter's recent marriage to a highwayman (who the father then plots to send to the gallows). Not to mention what happens when the highwayman runs into an old aquaintance of his, who visibly shows his earlier affection, and you have what makes to be a highly entertaining, emotional, and educational story of 18th century London. The dialogue is well written, and the only problem a modern reader might have is the operatic aspect. I suspect that the mockery of the opera is not felt as much when read but rather when performed. Note to reader: it makes it much easier to understand if you read the introduction. There you will find instances of "real" London that the playwrite is satirizing. For all lovers of period English pieces who enjoy a cynical wit.

Birth of the Modern Musical - John Gay's Genius Overwhelms Italian Opera
By Michael Wischmeyer
From its first performance, January 29, 1728, The Beggar's Opera was an absolute success. In that period a box office hit might be continued for four or five nights. Remarkably, The Beggar's Opera ran sixty-two nights in London, and was produced nearly every year thereafter to 1886. Its popularity quickly spread to Wales and Scotland, France and Germany, and even to the New England colonies (and became a favorite of George Washington).

A London revival in 1920 ran 1,463 performances. A Beggar's Opera Club had membership limited to those that had seen at least 40 performances. Bertholt Brecht's twentieth century version, Three Penny Opera, was immensely successful too. A jazzy rendition of one of Brecht's songs, Mack the Knife, became Number One on the Hit Parade in the early 1960s.

John Gay's innovative musical appealed to the masses with its rollicking, rowdy, English lyrics overlain on old, sentimental melodies. Formal, highly structured, Italian opera was shoved aside by this novel musical form.

The cast was equally original, being comprised of cutthroats, pickpockets, thieves, streetwalkers, highwaymen, and a corrupt jailer. Polly Peachum, the sweet, trusting daughter of the roguish Peachum, was the only honest character in the play. Miss Lavina Fenton, perhaps the best theatrical singer of her day, became immensely popular for her role as Polly and at end of the run - the sixty-two performances - she married the Duke of Bolton and retired from acting.

The audience was quick to associate Newgate Prison with Whitehall; the deceitful, avaricious Peachum (Polly's father) with Robert Walpole, the Prime Minister; Macheath's band of rogues (Jemmy Twitcher, Crook-Fingered Jack, Nimming Ned, etc.) with aristocratic courtiers, and Macheath's women of the streets (Mrs. Coaxer, Dolly Trull, Mrs. Vixen, Molly Brazen, etc.) with ladies of high society.

This short three-act play has some forty-five scenes, almost all with musical interludes. Gay holds this myriad of scenes together through nearly continuous action, more akin to a modern film than to the conventional eighteenth century play.

The Penguin Classics edition (titled The Beggar's Opera, as might be expected), edited by Brian Loughrey and T. O. Treadwell, is quite good and not difficult to find.

Another good choice (and my favorite) is The Beggar's Opera published by Barron's Educational Series, edited by Benjamin Griffith, and illustrated by Keogh with full page ink-line drawings of the key characters. The lengthy, three part introduction - the playwright, the play, and the staging - is quite helpful. The initial musical notes are presented along with the lyrics.

The Beggar's Opera, Regents Restoration Drama Series, Nebraska University Press, 1969 may be more suitable for English majors as it offers a scholarly introduction by Edgar V. Roberts. An extensive appendix, some 140 pages, is a compilation of the music of The Beggar's Opera with keyboard accompaniments, edited by Edward Smith.

The Beggar's Opera and Companion Pieces, Crofts Classics, 1966, edited by C. F. Burgess is particularly valuable - and somewhat unique - for including Gay's enjoyable poem Trivia (subtitled The Art of Walking the Streets of London), other poems (Newgate's Garland, 'Twas When the Seas Were Roaring, Sweet William's Farewell, Molly Mog, An Epistle to a Lady, and The Hare and Many Friends), and extracts from various letters. A possible drawback may be the absence of musical scores in the text, although the lyrics are embedded within the play itself.

This Kindle edition NOT the same as the Penguin which others review...
By Words can be music
The Penguin edition of John Gay's Beggar's Opera is indeed a fine piece of work - at least, the edition in paperback edited by Treadwell and Loughrey has terrific footnotes and a fine introductory essay that places The Beggar's Opera in the context of its time. The context includes not only information about the Italian operas that it parodies, but about the real people such as Jonathan Wild, the thief-taker, on whom Mr. Peachum was modeled, and Robert Walpole, the Georgian power broker and womanizer who was the original of Captain Macheath. Fascinating. The dark Satanic mills of Blake's time originated in Georgian times, in the east London of Hogarth's gin mills, which were an economic stimulus pure and simple, to benefit the rich by encouraging the degeneracy of the poor. Your appreciation of Gay's ironic opera will be enhanced by knowing this background.
But you will NOT find it in this edition, which as far as I can tell from the sample, has ONLY the text, no footnotes (footnotes are quite clarifying unless you are an expert in street argot of the time) and no introductory essay. BLEAH. Why does Amazon persist in putting reviews of one edition to work to sell something else that is quite inferior?
If you want JUST the text, get the freebie. This isn't worth $3.

Great book, could use a better translation
By Barbara
I'm not a "real" vegetarian, but, I really like this book. A lot of recipes, a lot of nutritional information. But, I found the translation from Swedish to be a little vague. Almost every recipe has "bake" translated as "grate". The temperature conversions are strange, 392 F, etc. But it all works. If you are an experienced cook, it makes no difference.

What I really like are the substitutions. The author gives a recipe, then lists several others changing out the ingredients. I don't like eggplant, but like zucchini, it seems they are interchangeable in many of the recipes.

The fruits and deserts are phenomenal. I also like the Swedish spicing.

I pretty much skipped that part
By The Illustrated Home Librarian
Not just a cookbook, the first part of the book is a treatise on vegetarianism in its many forms. I pretty much skipped that part. As an omnivore who enjoys vegetarian foods 3-4 days a week, I was just interested in some new recipes. This book was written by a Swede for people in Sweden so I also chose to skip recipes that called for what would be non-local foodstuffs here in the USA. However, there are still plenty of pleasing, easy-to-make and innovative recipes for every meal of the day for North Americans. I plan to try some few. Recommend it to others with the same cooking interests. The only thing I truly do wish it did have is a USA nutritional chart for each recipe - so helpful in creating balanced meals and carb counting.

Autism as Context Blindness, by Peter Vermeulen Ph.D.

Despite years of study and advanced technologies, we still do not fully understand how the
“typical” brain works, much less how an autistic brain works. And while we have
become increasingly familiar with the term autistic thinking, people with autism are still
misunderstood, leading to frustration, depression and missed opportunities to reach one’s
potential.
According to Peter Vermeulen, treatment of autism is still too focused on behavior and minimally focused on observation
or determining the way of thinking that leads to the behavior.
In this groundbreaking book, inspired by the ideas of Uta Frith, the internationally known psychologist and a pioneer in theory of mind as it relates to autism, Vermeulen explains in everyday terms how the autistic brain functions with a particular emphasis on the apparent lack of sensitivity to and awareness of the context in which things happen.
Full of examples, often humorous, the book goes on to examine “context” as it relates to observation, social interactions, communication and knowledge. The book concludes with a major section on how to reduce context blindness in these various areas, vital
for successful functioning. Due to the far-reaching consequences of context blindness, this book, due out in the winter of 2011-
2012, is a must for those living and working with somebody with autism.

Amazing Insight on Autism Related in Full to Context
By Joanna Keating-Velasco
Peter Vermeulen has created a a well-written, well-edited and wonderful resource focused solely to the subject of context in relation to autism. I was amazed at how thorough this resource was explaining the complexity of context in relation to individuals on the spectrum. It is chock full of visual and mini case study examples giving the reader an ongoing and increased understanding of what an individual on the spectrum experiences. The lengthy listing of references and footnotes in this book also offers a continued path of learning on each subject covered.

I have read stacks of books on autism and this is the first book that I have read which concentrates entirely on the subject of context. Vermeulen brings his vast experience and years working in the autism field to us enabling us to better understand those on the spectrum. By giving us so many hands-on examples, he puts us in the "shoes" of the person with autism helping to create an autism-friendly environment.

I would highly recommend this book for parents, educators, therapists and students going into any field of study impacted by autism. Not only will you learn a lot, you will quickly be lured in by the interesting examples in our everyday life related to context that we take for granted. He breaks it down and helps us understand the "whys" of the how individuals with autism respond when they are lost in the various contexts of life.

"The essence of autism is in the mind, not in the behavior." This quote from the book sums it up for me.

Illuminating concept, but limited understanding of what might done to help people
By Amazon Customer
Vermeulen does a nice job of explicating the idea of context blindness as a central problem for people on the Autism Spectrum. While he does his best to review the research in support of this idea and how it fits with other frequently cited challenges for people with ASD such as with central coherence, theory of mind, and executive function, it seemed to me that he might have done it in a far more compact format, such as a well referenced essay. In the end, his suggestion that people might benefit more from situational training than training limited to skills out of context (reading emotions, for instance) makes a lot of sense and it the kind of thing that you see in Crooke and Winner's efforts for workability (Social Thinking at Work: Why Should I Care?) and in the Pimsleur method for language learning. Still, I think his pessimism, claiming an inability of people on the Autism Spectrum to learn context awareness and sensitivity is roundly challenged by the gains we see in people who receive developmental-relationship based approaches (DIR/Floortime, PLAY Project, etc.) or those that are informed by those approaches (e.g. Early Start Denver Model) His lack of awareness of or attention to these evidence based and emotionally powered interventions, ones that change the paradigm of treatment, is a severe limitation for a book that otherwise does a commendable job in helping us all recognize some of the difficulties people with ASD can have. He offers a very concept but he is limited when it comes to thinking about what to do about it.

Not Useful for Special Needs Kids
By cjgma
I have a 4-3/4 yr old autistic child and have tried EVERYTHING for potty training. I finally did an Amazon search on potty training special needs children and this is one of the few books that popped up. I read through the entire 147 pages in a couple nights desperately searching for some "new" approach to reaching an autistic child. Although the author touches on the things that might make it more difficult to potty train an autistic child, she offered no new approach (in my mind) to helping me. Her constant suggestions of the reward system, which is what EVERYBODY recommends, is not new and does nothing to motivate my autistic child. I imagine this book might be useful for someone with a 2 yr old "typical" child who is just starting the potty training process. I would suggest that parents of autistic children, especially older ones where you've already tried all the "experts" methods, pass on this book. No help at all and certainly not worth the price.

potty trained in 5 weeks
By jan
My son was 4 and a half and not potty trained, not even close, no interest. I wanted to write this review as a rebuttal to the one star review. The thing that is new with this book is that you take two full weeks and chart every hour or half hour (we did every half-hour) pants checks. it was an enormous undertaking, and a huge effort on our part. after two weeks we could see WHEN my son typically would eliminate. Then we put him on the potty before his usual elimination time. Either your child will catch on, and decide to go potty when they feel the urge, or they will be trained to go potty on schedule. I thought we would probably be pottying on a schedule, however, My son now uses the restroom independently. (WhooHoo!!!!) It took 3 weeks worth of accidents--but we are on the other side. It was soooooo worth those charts and the three weeks of accidents to be on this side of potty training. It is a huge step in my son's development, and one I was afraid would not happen. It DID happen, thanks to this book. I highly recommend this book if you are willing to put in some intense work. I don't understand how the one star reviewer can say there is nothing new in this book--the reward system is only a small part of this book. It has tips and strategies to get your child to sit on the potty if they are reluctant, and humane time limits for trying to eliminate on the potty. I feel incredibly grateful to the author to be able to write a sparkling review of this book! It got the job done! Good luck to everyone on your potty journeys!

The Only Guide You'll Ever Need
By Nicole Rubenstein
Judith Coucouvanis performed a miracle when the expertise provided in her book helped my 4 1/2 year old son with sensory avoidance go pee AND poo in the potty the very first day we applied her techniques. I read her book on a Thursday night, started using the techniques and charts on Friday, and he quickly made such huge progress. It wasn't long ago when it took us a year just to get him to sit on the potty. We tried other books and guides, but they were not helpful. They gave us the wrong advice, e.g., just focus on the pee first since pooping is a completely different skill. We didn't find this to be true at all. It's amazing how other books really steered us wrong which helped delay the whole training process.

The Potty Journey is easy to read, easy to remember and also includes a visual guide of the toileting routine to help make it easy for your child to remember what to do. We will forever be grateful for this book. It not only prepares your child for the changes and the journey ahead, but it helps prepare the parents by giving them the right materials and tools to embark on this journey. And if you follow the advice in this book, and use the simple and easy-to-do charts, this journey should be smooth and rewarding in no time.
