A bible for ragtime pieces.

This old book is a perfect listeners' guide of ragtime music. It contains some synthetic historical introductions at the beginning of each chapter and then goes on describing almost every single ragtime piece ever written.
It was a very good source for a thesis I made on ragtime and would recommend it especially for people who want to appreciate this music with immediate full-immersion in the listening process.

An informative and easy reading book

I believe this book was first published in 1978 by Seabury Press. I still have an old hardcover edition, as it was the textbook for a music history class taught by David Jasen at C.W. Post College in the early 1980s. An informative and easy reading book, if you're a fan of early American music, it should be on your bookshelf.

a good ragtime reference

A good reference. Technical descriptions of many rags. Thumbnail sketches of many contemporary ragtime composers. I learned quite alot. Glad i bought it but not a great read
